About The Heckler
& Koch HK-33 Machinegun
The HK-33 was introduced in the 1960's as a refinement
of the G-3
battle rifle. It is different from the G-3 and MP-5 in
that it uses the 5.56x45mm NATO rifle bullet instead of the MP-5's
9mm Luger handgun round and the G-3's 7.62x51 NATO.
The HK-33 does not utilize the common gas method but
by a delayed-blowback mechanism that makes use of rollers that recess
into the receiver; the breech is thus never fully locked in the strict
sense of the word. The rollers hold the breech closed until the pressure
drops down to a safe level, then the block moves back and the round
is ejected and subsequently a new round is pushed into the chamber.
Additional information on the HK-33 can be found at Modern
Firearms HK-33.
