About The Fabrique Nationale FNC Machinegun
The FNC (Fabrique Nationale Carabine)
grew out of the the FN CAL (Carabine Automatique Légère)
project (which wasn't as successful as the other FN products) and
was targeted at engineering a rifle in the soon-to-be-adopted 5.56x45mm
NATO caliber. This FNC was designed with simplicity and reliability
in mind as well as ease of production and cost effectivity.
The FNC fires from a closed bolt and is gas operated,
the rifle accepts standard M-16 magazines; the opposite doesn't quite
apply as the FNC has no bold hold-back mechanism and thus the FNC
magazines will fail to hold the bolt back on AR-15 / M-16 rifles
after the last round has been fired, but they will fit and function
